THE RAINY DUTCHMAN

He liked the rain.
Liked the way his headlights cut through it at night.
Like Louisville last night.

Chorus

Heavy the burden, long is the road.
Gravity pullin', grabbin' the load.
Under attack, over the fear.
Gravitational man.

Tonight he drove through Utah.
He felt that the rain here was inferior due to the sorrow of the scenery.
So bland.

Bridge

He's a solid man, under fire, in the pocket.
He's a tired man, overworkin', out of money.
The brunt of both ends of the stick.

(Chorus)

He reached across the passenger's seat and fished around the pile of highway maps and produced a newspaper.
The entire state of New Jersey fell to the floorboard.

(Bridge)

Grabbin' the load,
Grabbin' the load,
Grabbin' the load,
Grabbin' the load.

(Chorus)

He pulled the car into the rest area, stopped, and switched on the dome light.
He turned to the weather section and planned his next move.
His lips formed the silent words "Baton Rouge".

(Bridge)

He liked the rain.
Liked the way his headlights cut through it at night.
Like Louisville last night.

The car then turned out of the rest area.
At some numbered highway it turned south.
The rain fell on.
